Rules and Regulations
Thank you for bringing your team to Texas Sports Association. We will use “modified” National Federation High School rules for all games with the noted exceptions. Texas Sports Association Jr. NBA leagues are grade based with age restrictions. ALL PLAYERS MUST BE CERTIFIED THROUGH NATIONAL SPORTS ID. In addition, we will use Birth Certificates and Reports Cards/School Records for verification. Report cards, a principal letter or school annual can be used to prove grade. We will check proof when a protest is registered. THERE IS A $150 CASH FEE TO SUBMIT A PROTEST AND ALL PLAYER PROTESTS "MUST" BE DONE BEFORE THE START OF THE GAME. PROTEST FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE UNLESS THE PROTESTER WINS THE PROTEST. PLAY HONEST! **THERE IS ALSO A FORFIET FEE. IF YOU FOREFIET A $50 FORFIET FEE WILL BE DUE BEFORE YOUR TEAM WILL BE ALLOWED TO PLAY THEIR NEXT GAME. YOUR TEAM WILL BE DROPPED FROM THE LEAGUE IN THE EVENT YOU FORFIET A 2ND TIME. Teams may press or play full court defense until the scoring margin reaches 15 points (3rd-6th grade), at this time, the winning team can only play half-court defense; (7th-senior high) MAY CONTINUE TO PRESS FULL COURT. We will play two 4-8 minute quarters for 3rd grade (8U) through 8th grade (14U), 4-10 minute quarters for 9th grade (JV). During the last two minute of the 2nd half, the clock will stop on all dead balls (unless a team is up by 15 points). If a team is ahead by 30+ point with 2 minutes or less in the game, the game will be called. We ask all coaches to instruct their players to raise their hand if they commit a foul. When a player is to shoot foul shots, we ask that you hurry your team to the foul line and lane. Teams will be given a three to five-minute warm-up time between games and a two to four-minute halftime (dependent on time constraints). Each team will have 3 time-outs per game. However, the time outs are limited to two per half. (Ex. – If you don’t use any in the first half you only have two in the second half. If you use two in the first half, you only have one in the second half.) Overtime is 2 minutes and time-outs DO NOT carry over. Teams will be given one time-out. Clock stops on all whistles during the last minute of overtime. If not provided by Texas Sports Association staff, the team listed first is responsible for the official book and the team listed second is responsible for the clock. Please be prepared in advance for these duties each game. We will use a 28.5 inch ball for all girls and boys grades 3-6 (unless coaches agree to use 29.5 ball) and 29.5 for 7th grade boys and up (home team provides ball).
You must check the posted times for changes. If at all possible, we will start games early (10 minute max). Be at least thirty minutes to an hour early to each game unless you are the first game of the day. Teams will be seeded out of league play for the end of season tournament and all teams advance to the championship tournament bracket play. Teams finishing with the same record in league play, we will use the following rules for tie breakers, 1st record, 2nd head to head, 3rd total point difference of all games you played with a maximum of 15 points for any one win and 7 points for forfeit wins, 4th coin toss.
